The 2000 Toyota Camry with a 2.2 liter I-4Camshaft position sensor will be mounted at the midline on the drivers side of the engine. It is situated at or below the valve cover of the cylinder head sealing line under the timing belt assembly of the engine. The key function of the camshaft sensor is to classify the orientation of the camshaft as it applies to the crankshaft. This data is then sent to the powertrain control module to be used with the fuel injector and the ignition control system to decide the amount of fuELRequired to be injected for combustion and power. Some of the indicators You need to check for if You find You have a defective sensor are the engine light on, problems starting the vehicle or no start, and the car jerking or surge forward when accelerating.
