The 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 series uses orange colored dex cool coolant in the vehicle. You should never mix different types of coolant together in Your car because it can cause corrosion in the engine and cooling system. If You have low coolant and You are unsure about the type You have in Your car then You should just top it off with distilled water. This may reduce the cooling capacity slightly but it will not cause any damage to the engine components at all. You should check Your coolant every time that You change Your oil to make sure that it is full. Coolant can evaporate or boil off over time and that can lead to low levels.
