The starter relay in a 2001 Ford Explorer is found in the Power Distribution Box which is located on the driver side of the engine bay to the left of the brake master cylinder. The relay is in position 49 which is on the right side of the box, two down from the top. Replacing the relay is as easy as pulling out the old one and installing the new one. You have to make sure You get the correct replacement, some relays are designed to handle more power than others and the starter is a very power hungry part.
