The EVAP vent solenoid monitors the air necessary for the Silverados's EVAP charcoal cannister to compress and pressurize emissions correctly. If it fails or needs to be replaced drivers will notice an increase in engine pressures as the solenoid stops informing the release and build-up of vapors there. The "check engine" light will be illuminated and the truck will likely fail an emissions test. To locate the sensor look on top of the fuel tank. The bed must be removed to access. GMC actually issued a TSB detailing the replacement of the vent solenoid for 1999-2007 models of the Chevrolet Silverado. Included in the repair is the movement of the air filter box. This repair is often diagnosed by the DTC P0446 "Restricted/Blocked Evap Vent Path" error code.
