The 2002 Chevy Tracker uses SAE 5W-30 oil in the engine. Chevrolet recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it. There are two common oil types on the market these days, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is newer and engineered in a lab to give You greater wear performance and longer life than conventional which is made from petroleum. This means You should only need to change synthetic every 7,500 miles compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 miles change interval for conventional. You should check Your oil at least once a month. During this check You will want t make sure it is properly filled and free from any signs of damage or debris floating in it.
