The 2003 Dodge Caravan neutral safety switch is located on the transmission itself. The switch is in charge of making sure the engine does not damage itself by turning over in the wrong gear. If the switch is bad then the engine will not turn over when it should but will turn over while in neutral. You can drive like this, but You run the risk of doing repairable damage to Your engine, which is obviously a bad plan. For this reason, it is important to have the switch replaced if it goes bad. Having this done at a shop will cost You about 250 to 300 dollars, so while not cheap it is not the most expensive repair around.
