The oxygen sensors on the vehicle are located along the air intake pipe. The 2004 BMW X3 haS4 of them along with the system in total. The sensors are in charge of making sure that the correct amount of air is making it to the engine. If You have too little or too much then the car is running rich or lean. This will make the engine have to work harder to function and may give You reduced power. IN the long term this strain will damage the engine, so You will really want to avoid having it happen.

The 2004 bmw x3 o2 sensors are located on each side of the engine block near the exhaust manifolds and there is another sensor on the exhaust system after the catalytic converter.
