The EVAP vent solenoid on Your 2004 Chevy Malibu can be found on the top of Your fuel tank under the car. It will have tubes running to it and be above the top of the tank when You are looking for it. The EVAP vent solenoid is responsible for opening and closing the EVAP vent which helps relieve pressure on Your fuel system when vapors build up. The vapors go through a carbon fitler on the EVAP filter housing and then out the solenoid. If Your solenoid is stuck open or closed You will get a check engine light on at the dash either detecting an EVAP leak or excessive pressure in the vacuum system.
