The 2009 Chevy HHR has a transmission fluid capacity of 6.5 quarts for the vehicle. When You change it You should use a synthetic transmission fluid like Dexron ViATF. I recommend that You check Your transmission fluid every time that You change the oil in Your car. During this check You will want to make sure it is full and free from any debris. Debris in transmission fluid will make it reflective or sparkly because it is pieces of metal that are floating in the oil. If You happen to notice any leaks from Your transmission You should address them as soon as possible as well. Low fluid levels can cause excessive heat buildup and that can damage the gears.
