The maintenance schedule for the 2012 Toyota Highlander is pretty detailed and You should follow it to avoid any problems with the vehicle. If You keep up with the maintenance You can also extend the lifespan of the vehicle. For example every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first You should inspect all fluid levels, replace the engine oil and oil filter, rotate the tires and inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs. Every 15,000 miles or 18 months, whichever comes first You should re-torque the propeller shaft bolt, inspect the ball joints, inspect coolant and inspect transfer case oil. Every 30,000 miles or every 36 months, whichever comes first You should replace the cabin air filter and replace engine air filter.
