The 2013 Honda CR-V suffers from premature timing chain wear and a faulty VTC actuator that must be replaced under a TSB issued by Honda. Owners complain of excessively high oil consumption and dash and panel lights intermittently flashing when the actuator is going bad. The problem is outlined in Technical Service Bulletin #16-012. Unfortunately the actuator fails before 70,000 miles. When the timing chain requires replacement, owners must pay out of pocket. Costs associated with this repair exceed $2,500 and disputes exist between Honda and owners over the chain's coverage under warranty. One client complied with the TSB and financing the chain's replacement only to experience the issue at 96,000 miles.
