The 2016 Ford Explorer has a total freon capacity of 44.96 ounces, and uses R-134a refrigerant. It always uses a refrigerant oil type of PAG-46. If You pay at the dealer to "recharge" the AC system, which involves adding the refrigerant, it'll run You around $155 on average. But, You can buy this and add it Yourself, relatively easily. Pop the hood to Your Explorer, and locate the charging port: It's going to be on the passenger side, almost at the firewall, on top of the white plastic container; it's a small white plastic hose sticking up, with a black twist cap. Simply unscrew that, place the necessary amount of freon, and then screw the cap back on.
