The check gauge light in the 2004 Ford Expedition means there is an issue with the gas tank. The most common reason this will come on is that You are low on gas. If this is the case simply refuel Your vehicle and You will be good to go. If this is not the case then You may have other problems. Low oil pressure may be one reason that this is coming on. IF this is the case then You will need to check the oil pump and maybe do an oil change. Extremely low temperatures can also cause this, though You should never assume this is the reason. If You take the car to a shop they can check it with an OBD scanner for more info.

It means that there is something wrong that you can see looking at the gauges - low oil pressure, high temperature, low fuel level, etc.
