Since 2004 the Chevy Avalanche's fuel filter has been installed in the fuel tank and is considered a non-serviceable part. The filter is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. However, due to lack of care or exposure to debris, fuel permanent filters can become clogged, faulty and impair driving. To prolong Your vehicle's health, change synthetic oil at recommended intervals, every 7,500-10,000 miles or 12 months. The Avalanche should be equipped with 6 US quarts of 5W-30. Use the correct octane in the gas tank (regular, unleaded 87 octane) and schedule routine checkups that include emissions inspections. Regular maintenance will help preserve the Avalanche's long-term reliability.

Wrong. The 04 avalanche has a serviceable in line fuel filter on the frame under the drivers door. I just replaced mine

Look under the driver side near the driver side door to locate the fuel filter on the chevy avalanche.

I also have a 2004 Avalanche and there is no inline fuel filter. GM must have changed this during 2004 production year.

No inline fuel filter on the frame rail on my wife’s 2004 chevy avalanche. It’s in the tank as the top answer stated.
