The neutral safety switch on a Chevy Aveo can be found on the side of the transmission near where the gear linkage is to the shifter. This is used to make sure that the transmission is either in park or in neutral when You start the motor. This helps prevent damage to the transmission when starting up. If Your neutral safety switch is not working properly then Your vehicle may need to be in neutral to start instead of park. It is a cheap part but it is fairly complex to change if it does go bad. Usually You will need to remove Your center console to access the are where it is located on the top of the transmission.

The neutral safety switch for an automatic transmission is located inside the transmission case or in the link which enables the vehicle to change gears. The turn prevents you from starting the engine in any gear other than park or neutral when the transmission is in.
