The flex pipe recall on some Chevy Cobalt is related to issues of tearing and cracking. The pipe itself is a semi-flexible mesh pipe that runs under the car. It is designed to have some give to it so that it can flex with the movements of the car. In some cases, it was found that the pipe would become brittle and stiff when it was subjected to cold temperatures. This could lead to full breaks when driving, or smaller cracks in the pipe that would be hard to notice. In either case, however, this would lead to leaks. If You have a damaged pipe You should contact Chevy, as You may be able to get a free replacement.
