Removing or replacing the check engine light on a Ford Ranger is a very complicated procedure, and it's often not worth the time or work involved. In order to gain access to the instrument cluster, You'll need to remove the dashboard, which is an afternoon job in and of itself. A few drivers report trying to do this in order to remove the bulb and hide system issues; I hope that's not what You're considering. If You're looking to sell the truck, doing this would be underhanded at best, and criminal at worst. If You're doing it to hide issues from Your inspection technician, know that the system will still fail inspection since removal of the light won't clear the stored codes. Sorry if I'm assuming the worst, but it's a very uncommon question to ask if there are no ulterior motives.

Not the easiest place to get to on the truck. You have to remove the dash and then find the bulb.
