The Ford Ranger oil type iS5w-20 or 5w-30. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t trust synthetic oil! They recommend other viscosity oils over seas because the use different engines. With the small turbo charged engine, I would only use the recommended 5w20. I’d also use a full synthetic oil.

5W - 20 (or) 5W - 30 Synthetic engine oil is recommended for thr Ford Ranger XLT 3.2, However I'm curious If a different viscosity oil would be better for a really old or really new engine (ex. My dads - *230 000km on the clock/but a new engine has been installed since 170 000km = 60 000km done by current engine)... As the engine ages, circumstances change inside and I wonder If someone has info. On how viscosity should be adjusted as the engine ages???

Ford recommends that ford rangers with 2.3L engines should use a 5w-20 and 5w-30 motor oil although it will depend on the age of the engine.

Id not recommend 5w20this is 2nd vehicleive had in last 5 years that said to use it then find out overseas version of same car uses 5w 30 or higher they have to put 5w20 because when they are made and engineered 5w20 is the lowest acceptable oil to kinda protect engineand gives best EPA and fuel mileage but no worries about using 5w30 mayb 10w30 in summer honestlyim debating on whether to use synthetic blend or high mileage synthetic blend dont trust or like synthetic and conventiinal is great but for near same price can get one of the prior 2 which has better oil and additives

I have a 2021 Roush Ranger. I only Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W30. I’ve only ever used Mobile 1 in all my vehicles, changed every 5000 miles and have never had an engine problem since I’ve been driving. I’m 43 years old. Take that for what it’s worth.
