To read the trouble code provided by the Check Engine Light in a Honda Civic You will need to locate the check engine light jumper plug which is usually located in the passenger kick panel and is light blue or gray. Once You find the plug You will need to jump the two wires together using a short piece of wire or a paperclip. With the wires jumped You need to turn on the ignition and count the number of flashes the CEL shows. This gives You the code which You can use to locate the fault. Once You have read the trouble code and You have corrected the cause of the light You will need to clear the trouble codes and turn off the CEL. To do this You need to find Your underhood fuse boxAnd using the owners manual find the ECU Memory/Backup fuse and remove it. Wait about 5 minutes and replace the fuse. This will clear the codes and turn off the light.

To reset the honda civic's check engine light, insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. Depress the reset button and select "yes" to clear.

Using the reset button resets the "Maint Req'd" light, not the Check Engine light (which looks like a picture of an engine). They are different. The Maint Req'd merely tells you it's time for an oil change or whatnot. The Check Engine light tells you to go to the Honda dealer and open your wallet, something is wrong with the car.

Engine light remains on throwing out of code PO a7f
I got a 97 Honda Civic, my check engine light is still on & the code for it reads PO505. I’m not sure what part I would need to install as well as clearing the code.
