The P0507 error code refers to an issue within the Chevy Silverado's idle control system. Specifically, that the truck is idling with excessively high or unusual RPMs. The error is thrown when the ECU detects an abnormal range of RPMs when the truck is running. The malfunction is typically caused by an intake leak, carbon buildup on the throttle body, a clogged IAC or idle air control valve, a faulty power steering switch or a failed alternator. A driver may notice the "check engine" light illuminated, uneven or surging idle ranges, rough engine operation and difficulty starting. Most often a d***y throttle body or clogged IAC valve is the culprit. The cost to replace the IAC averages $360-$420 in parts and labor.

The idle air control valve (iac) is a stepper motor controlled by the powertrain control module (pcm), located on the throttle body. This dtc sets when the pcm is detecting an engine speed outside the control range of the iac.
