The 2013 Toyota Corolla uses DOT 3 brake fluid for the car. This is a hydraulic fluid and is used in the brake lines to allow the calipers to close when You press down on the brake pedal in the car. I recommend checking Your brake fluid every time that You change the oil in Your car to make sure that it is still full. If You notice that is low then You should look to find the leak as soon as possible. Leaking brake fluid can lead to a loss of braking performance and that could lead to a very dangerous situation while driving. Usually they will leak where the lines meet the calipers.

It is stated in the owner's manual for this vehicle that you can use either dot 3 or dot 4 brake fluid.
