The 2006 Toyota Sienna comes equipped with a timing belt rather than a timing chain. The Sienna used the belts from the year 1998 througH2006 and switched to the chain in the year 2007 and has been using it ever since. One of the reasons they probably switched is because the chain requires less maintenance than the belt. Vehicles with timing belts need to be changed every so often, for the Sienna it should be changed every 60,000 to 100,000 or so. The reason why the belt needs to be changed is because it is on the outside of the engine and is exposed, unlike the belt which is on the inside of the engine and isn't exposed. The cost to replace the belt is anywhere between $460 and $580 in labor costs and extra for parts.
