The Toyota Tacoma V6 has a timing belt, instead of a timing chain. With a chain, the part would be expected to last for the lifetime of the vehicle. With the belt on the Tacoma, however, there are scheduled intervals for maintenance. You can expect to replace the timing belt on Your vehicle once every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, or every 3 to 5 years. This cost will be covered by Your warranty. If You do find that Your belt has worn, become damaged, or broken prematurely, the cost to replace it will be between $56 and $158 for parts alone. If You choose to have it replaced by a professional mechanic, You can expect to pony up an additional $90 to $184 for labor.

My first one was at 50,2XX simply because my water pump went bad and they were already there. My second one was just done at 225,x*x... No problems at all. Its not an interference engine, but go at your own risk...

Tacomas with the V6 have timing chains, not belts.
