The 2008 Cadillac Escalade uses premium unleaded gas. The recommended octane rating is 91. This is a higher grade and more refined gas. Using a lower grade gas might lead to the engine performing at a lower level than it should. This also leads to faster build up of impurities in the combustion system. The fuel filters might also have to work overtime filtering the gas. A clogged fuel filter will result in poor starting of the car, and also jerky operation. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle's acceleration could be slightly reduced, and you might notice a slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred to as spark knock.
