The 2014 Nissan Maxima uses unleaded premium gas with a recommended octane rating of 91 or higher. While Nissan suggests that You stick with a rating of over 91, many users report having great performance with 87 oR89 octane rated gas. The main benefit of using a higher rated gas has to do with engine efficiency, longevity and performance. A higher rated gas will offer much more longevity, as this makes things much smoother for the engine. Premium fuel is also recommended by Nissan, although the car has performed well with regular unleaded gas. That being said, users have also reported having better mileage with premium fuel.

The 2014 Nissan Maxima takes 91 octane unleaded premium gas. Although 91 octane is Nissan's recommendation, the Maxima may also use 87 or 89 octane gas, but a decrease in engine performance is likely.
