The 2018 Buick Encore uses SAE 5W-30 oil. Buick recommends that You use fully synthetic oil when You do need to change it for the best protection. Oil comes in two major varieties, conventional and synthetic. Conventional is the original type of oil and it is made from petroleum, synthetic is a new type of oil and it is engineered in a lab. Synthetic oil can provide better protection for Your engine components, and last longer than conventional. Usually synthetic is good for 7,500 miles between an oil change, whereas conventional needs a changing every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. Get into a habit of checking Your oil regularly. This is the best way to make sure that it is in good condition and free from debris.
My 2018 Encore takes 5w-30 as per the oil filler cap. It has the same engine for all, but they are not all the same. Some take 0w-20, 0w-30, or 5w-30. There are 2 kinds of filters as well. If you have a hengst cap (black) the filter is w/o check valve. If you have the UFI cap (brown) the filter has a check valve, It has a spring on the top. Don't get any of this mixed up. Mine has the UFI cap (Brown w/check valve). I had a hard time finding one. The other filters are everywhere.

Buicks 4 cylinder SUV, the Encore, comes in six different trims for 2018. The 1SV, the Preferred, the Preferred 2, the Essence, Sport Touring and the Premium trims all use the same type of oil. They require either 5w-30 that meets dexos1 or 0w-30 oil.
