The 2001 Nissan Altima uses SAE 5W-30 motor oil and holdS3.6 US quarts. One of the most important and easy things You can do to keep Your car in great health is to stay on top of oil checks and changes. Its easy to do at home and You dont have to spend a lot to do it. 5 quarts will run You anywhere from $4 to $30, depending on which brands You prefer. You should be changing Your oil once every 5,000 miles or so, or once every 6 months. One or the other may come first for You, so just change it as needed. You should also check Your oil levels once a month. Youre looking for a level that is somewhere below the max line and somewhere above the min line. If its too high or low, drain or add, as needed.

The 2001 Nissan Altima recommends the SAE 5W-30 viscosity oil as the preferred for all temperatures. SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 viscosity oil may be used if the ambient temperature is above 0°F (-18°C).
