For the 2005 Hyundai Sonata there are two engine options and the 2.4 L takeS4.5 quarts of oil while the 2.7 L V6 will need 4.8 quarts and the recommended oil type for both of them iS5W-20. You can use 5W-30 if that's what You have available but You should try to go back to the 5W-20 at Your next oil change. You're also going to need a new filter for the oil change and something like the WIX51334-EA is compatible with either engine and it will only cost You around $15. Whether You choose a conventional or synthetic oil is up to You but synthetic is typically a better option and it's still very affordable these days. -

Hyundai recommends 5W-20 synthetic oil for both engine options; the 2.4L inline-4 and the 2.7L V6; in the 2005 Hyundai Sonata. You can use 5W-30 if you are unable to get 5W-20.
