The 2006 BMW X3 uses SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil. The oil capacity iS6.5 quarts. It is recommended to change Your oil every 7,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. You can extend Your engine life, get better gas mileage, and have better performance if You change Your oil regularly. Routine oil and filter changes help remove particles and sludge from the engine. If the oil isn't changed, Your vehicle's engine will start to have a lot of problems. Over time the oil will become thinner, abrasive, and will start to wear down on vital engine parts.
