The 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses SAE 52-W20 motor oil. Jeep recommends that You use full synthetic motor oil when You need to change it. Oil comes in two major varieties, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic oil is engineered to provide superior lubrication and protection for Your engine components compared to conventional which is made from petroleum. On average synthetic oil also lasts longer than conventional meaning You will only need to change it every 7,500 miles, compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 of conventional. Check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that there is no debris in it and that it is full. This can help protect Your engine for thousands of miles to come.
