Your 2010 Chevrolet Colorado uses a full synthetic SAE 5W-30 motor oil. A typical compatible product is ACDelco'S-10-9246, which runs about $4.25 a quart, and provides adequate engine protection for Your Chevy. It's going to take 5 quarts to fill up on the 2.5l 4Cylinder engine and about 6 quarts on the 3.6l V6 one, so purchase accordingly. Some indications that Your engine's oil is low is if You see the oil pressure warning light. I bet You knew that, but some other ones You might not is if there's a clunking sound, a burning oil smell, or if Your engine's overheating. If You observe these, do make a point of seeing if it's the oil first; it's a pretty cheap fix, though if You're seeing it a lot, You'll need to figure out what else is wrong causing Your engine to eat so much of it!

Chevy recommends using SAE 5W-30 engine oil for the 2010 Colorado. If the temperature falls below -20 F, you can use SAE 0W-30 oil in order to help with cold starts. No other viscosity grade oil is recommended.
