The 2010 Chevrolet Silverado takes SAE 5W-30 motor oil. If You find Yourself in a climate where the weather drops below -20F You can switch to SAE 0W-30 to help Your car with cold starts. But once the weather heats up again, You muSTSwitch back to prevent damage to Your vehicle. Your car will hold up to 4.5 US quarts of oil with a filter change if its the 4.3L V6, and the 4.8L and 5.3L V8 engines will hold up to 6.0 quarts. Your car uses a computer to remind You when to change Your oil, so You dont need to worry about doing so until You see the message. If You drive in the most ideal conditions, You may not see this message for over a year, so if Youre worried about how long its been, dont be! That said, its good to check Your oil levels at least once a month to make sure the levels arent above or below the max and min lines.

Chevy recommends using SAE 5W-30 engine oil for the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. If the temperature falls below -20 F, you can use SAE 0W-30 oil or SAE 5W-30 synthetic oil in order to help with cold starts. No other viscosity grade oil is recommended.
