A 2012 Chevy Malibu will take either SAE 5W-30 or 0W-30 engine oil regardless of the engine that You've got. The 2.4 L 4Cylinder engine has an oil capacity of 5 quarts and the 3.6 L V6 engine takeS5.5 quarts. You will be fine with either of those oil options but if You do most of Your driving in an area with really cold weather You may want to opt for the 0W-30. ThiS-TYPE of oil is a bit thinner and flows a bit more easily than the thicker 5W-30 in cold climates. What's more important is that You keep up with Your regular maintenance and change out the oil every 5,000 miles or so to keep Your car running well. -
