The 2014 Dodge Journey uses SAE 5W-20 motor oil. Dodge also recommends that You use a synthetic oil when it is time to do an oil change. Synthetic oil is designed to offer You the best lubrication and protection possible, and will outperform standard conventional petroleum based oils in Your engine. This will give You greater wear protection on the moving components in Your engine. Synthetic oil also needs to be changed less frequently. On average You will need to change it every 7,500 miles, compared to every 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. I suggest that You check Your oil monthly to make sure that it is filled properly and in good condition. Oil that is burned or has debris should be replaced.

Dodge recommends MOPAR® SAE 5W-20 engine such as Pennzoil®, Shell Helix® or equivalent for the 2014 Journey. Both the 2.4L and 3.6L engines are recommended to use this viscosity grade.
