The 2014 Jeep Cherokee uses SAE 5W-20 motor oil in the engine. Jeep recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to replace it. There are two main types of oil that You can find on the market. The first is synthetic and the second is conventional. Conventional is made from petroleum, and synthetic is engineered in a lab to give You greater lubrication and protection than conventional. Synthetic also lasts longer since it breaks down slower, this means You can go 7,500 miles between changes compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 with conventional. Check Your oil at least once a month using the dip stick to make sure that it is filled and free from signs of debris or burning.
