The kind of oil the 2014 Kia Sportage takes iS5w-20. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. A common problem is an awful burning smell. This needs to be inspected as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. Knocking noise may show up from the engine. You could experience bad gas mileage as well. Having high quality oil is essential for the engine to run smoothly.

Kia recommends using SAE 5W-30 motor oil (API SM / ILSAC GF-4) for the 2014 Sportage when equipped with a T-GDI engine. And when equipped with the GDI engine, Kia recommends using 5W-20 oil.
