The 2014 Toyota Highlander uses 0W-20 motor oil and will hold up to 6.4 US quarts with the filter. In a pinch, 5W-20 can be used instead, but at the next oil change, You must change it back to the recommended oil to avoid damaging Your SUV. You also need to stay on top of regular oil changes, and Toyota recommends changing it out every 7,500 to 10,000 miles for synthetic oil, and every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for conventional oil. Checking Your oil once a month for clear color vs dark brown, and making sure the oils are above min and arent above max will keep Your vehicle healthy and happy for a very long time.

For the 2014 Highlander, Toyota recommends using SAE 0W-20 Toyota Genuine Motor Oil. This is a synthetic oil. Toyota also states that if 0W-20 is not available, SAE 5W-20 may be used until the next oil change when 0W-20 is available.
