The kind of oil the 2015 Chevy Equinox takes iS5w-30. Your oil needs to be changed eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't change it, there will be problems with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. A common problem is an awful burning smell. This needs to be inspected as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.
So, I used 5-30 dexos Penzoil. I change my oil in my 2015 V6 Equinox every 5k. Would burn about 2 quarts. Switched to full synthetic dexos at 5 k miles my oil level is still on full line.

The recommended engine oil for the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is a 5W-30 viscosity and oil that meets dexos1 quality standards. A 0W-30 viscosity can be used as well.

2015 3.6 liter. Car would burn full synthetic 2ish quarts every 2500 miles. Switched to Mobil1 full synthetic dexos. At 5k miles it’s still on full line. It’s expensive but my car sure likes it
My 2014 Equinox LTZ takes 5W30 oil but they put in0W20 now the car burns oil bad.
