The 2006 Chevy Impala uses Dexron VI transmission fluid standard. It is important that You never mix different types of fluid in Your transmission because it can reduce their effectiveness and their heat resistance. If You are unsure what type of transmission fluid You have You should talk with Your mechanic to make sure that You purchase the right type. If Your vehicle has only ever been serviced by Chevy then it will have Dexron VI. Make an effort to check Your transmission fluid every time that You change Your oil to make sure it is full and in good condition. Damaged fluid will have sparkles and look reflective due to metal contaminants in it.
