When the check engine light turns on in Your 2012 Nissan Murano the first thing that I suggest You do is stop driving. This light comes on when there is a mechanical fault detected with Your car and continuing to drive can cause permanent damage to components. Once You have stopped You can use an OBD II scan tool to read the ECU to determine what code was thrown. There are hundreds of codes that can be thrown to turn on Your check engine light. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap on Your car, or as complexAs engine and transmission failures. The only way to know why the light turned on for sure is to scan it. If You do not have a scan tool many major auto parts stores will scan it for free.

If the check engine light on the 2012 nissan murano is on then you may have a couple off different issues. Realistically it can come on anytime the ecu detects and error and stores a trouble code. To check the code you will need to hook the vehicle up to a obd scanner and read the code. The light can also come on when you are approaching a service milestone. Issue that cause it can include a loose gas cap, leaks in the vacuum seals, engine misfires, low oil pressure, bad spark plugs, or really anything else. The check engine light is a catch all to alert you that something is wrong, but that something can cover nearly anything on the vehicle. Often it is minor, but it should not be ignored.
