The 2002 Ford Focus' 2.0 L 4Cylinder engine is equipped with A4-speed automatic transmission that useS7 quarts of Dexron ViATF fluid. A transmission flush and filter change is needed every 150,000 miles. Problems associated with a failing tranny include hesitating, slipping between gears, surging while idle and lowered speed capacity, sometimes under 30 mph. The vehicle can get stuck in park or fail to engage, if the transmission is going bad. Low fluid levels can cause burning smells, leaks, and clunking, grinding or "humming" noises. Regular maintenance can extend the life of the tranny. Cost of servicing averages $380-$418 in materials and labor. Cost of replacing the tranny can range from $1,300-$2,000 in parts and labor.

XT11QDC. These are sealed transmission, meaning that there are VW technical instructions for drain and fill. One tech said to s**k out the old and fill until the fluid reaches bottom of threads. Like I said, not too much to go on.
