The 2017 GMC Terrain has a 2.4 L 4Cylinder engine that has a recommended oil type of 5W-30 Synthetic. The amount of 5W-30 Synthetic that should be used in the vehicle iS5 quarts with a filter. What 5W-30 means iS5 is the viscosity or the thickness of the oil at startup, with w standing for winter and 30 the thickness or the viscosity at operating speeds. Synthetic is better than conventional because it is man made and contains fewer contaminants. The unfortunate thing about oil is that it does not last forever so it needs to be changed. In the Terrain it should be changed every 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. The cost of an oil change is $20 to $30 in labor costs.

Oil changes are a regular element of maintenance on a vehicle if you want to prevent premature wear and prolong the life of your vehicle. The Terrain needs 5W-30 oil and the manufacturer recommends that an oil change be completed at least once a year. Mechanic shops and service stations can do this for you or, you can complete it yourself.
