The type of oil that is used in the 2001 Ford Ranger with the 2.5 L 4Cylinder engine iS5W-20, it used to be 5W-30 but the manufacturer ended up changing it to 5W-20. The capacity for the Ranger iS4.5 quarts with a filter and when You are refilling it You should always remove the dipstick in order to allow it to vent and allow oil to flow into the crankcase. You should change the oil in the truck every 3,500 to 5,000 miles and might as well change the filter every time You do so. It is important to change the oil because it keeps the engine clean and helps with friction when engine parts rub against each other.

It is recommended to use full synthetic 5w-20 motor oil in a 2001 ford ranger 2.5 L engine.
