The rear differential fluid used in the 2005 Ford Escape is API category GL-5 and SAE 80w-90 Synthetic Gear lube. Such as Motorcraft 80w-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant. It should be changed after 75,000 miles but the oil change should not be delayed more than 100,000 miles for the health of Your differential. The differential fluid doesnt get the same treatment as the engine oil, but is equally as important as the engine oil, because the metal to metal contact wears down the surfaces and creates heat, weakening the gear, and leading to failure. So to avoid costly repairs and to keep the differential in optimum condition get it changed regularly.

You can buy this online in small bottles, and it will have instructions on how to put it in. It will cost you about 10 to 15 dollars.
