The type of rear differential fluid a 2005 Ford Explorer uses iS75-140. If You need to change the differential fluid on the car You will need to locate the panel on the back of the axle. If You are just putting fluid in then You are in luck. There is an intake port where You can pour it in. Fill it to the full line and then close up the port, simple. If You need to change the fluid though then You need to remove the cover plate. When You do the oil is going to pour out, so You need a pool to catch it under the plate. Once it is drained out You can put the plate back on, then pour the oil in like above.

You can buy this fluid in 32 oz bottles and it will cost you about 5 to 6 dollars at most stores.
