The 2000 Chevy Silverado uses a conventional transfer case, which uses SAE 80w or SAE 80w-90 lubricant. If You've swapped out Your transmission system, however, You may need to use SAE 10w-30 or 10w-40 engine oil for those systems. Finally, conventional systems use Dextron II transmission fluid. These fluids all serve to lubricate, cool and regulate the internal temperature of components of the vehicle. The transfer case allows this to happen smoothly and efficiently, while also providing lubrication to the clutch. For optimal performance, its best to use a transfer case fluid manufactured by a reputable brand. This includes companies like Chevrolet themselves, as well as third party manufacturers like Motocraft and Castrol.
