The reason why the check engine light might come on in the 2004Chevrolet Silverado 1500 could be from a loose gas cap, bad o2 sensor, problem with the catalytic converter or a bad spark plug. Some of these are simple issues and some of these are more complicated issues. Some of these cost nothing or next to nothing to fix or can get quite pricey. If the problem is with the gas cap You can just check to see if it needs tightened or if it needs to be replaced. The cost of a new gas cap is anywhere from $15 to $30. If the problem is with the catalytic converter, it would cost anywhere from $1,500 to $1,540 to replace.

If your "check engine light" makes an appearance in your 2004 Chevy silverado it may indicate a loose gas cap or a more serious issue like a failed o2 sensor, a larger emissions leak or problems with your vehicle's catalytic converter.
