The Audi fault code 00473 stands for Control Module for Elect. Park/Hand Brake (J540): No Signal/Communication. What this means is that the vehicles computer has lost the electrical signal coming from the parking brake module. This typically happens when the wiring harness is damaged, a bare wire shorting out or a corroded or bent pin in the connector. When this happens, most of the time the parking brake will not release automatically when shifting into drive, although the parking brake can still be used manually. A control module failure will cause the code to show up during a diagnostic scan. The module is in the engine compartment on the drivers side near the firewall. A new module can cost between $300 to $500 and labor costs can add $50 to $70 per hour for replacement.

The 00473 code indicates your Audi is experiencing parking and handbrake issues and you should seek diagnosis from a reliable auto repair shop.
