The fuel filter on Your 2000 Dodge Durango is located inside the fuel tank. The purpose of the fuel filter is basically what it sounds like, it filters any contaminants out of the gasoline before they are sent into the engine. This part does have a lifespan though and will need to be replaced every 40,000 - 80,000 miles depending on the quality of the fuel going through it. In order to change the filter You will need to jack up the vehicle and place it on jack stands so You have access to the fuel tank. Once You have it high enough You will need to disconnect the wiring and slide Your floor jack under the tank using it to support the tank as You unbolt it. Lower the jack enough that You can reach the fuel pump/filter access port and replace the filter.
