The EGR valve on a 2001 Dodge Ram can be found on the side of the intake manifold. Usually if this valve is having a problem You will get a check engine light at Your dash that will let You know a fault was detected. The EGR valve is designed to recirculate exhaust gasses back into the intake of Your vehicle. This can help reduce emissions from Your car since when they are burnt again they are safer to expel through the exhaust. When this component fails You will usually notice that Your truck runs rough and it may feel like it is down on power. This is because the O2 sensors wind up getting more pollutants and reduce fuel.

My 2001 doesn't have an egr valve. I'm pretty sure that none of the 2001s have one.
